Latest reports from BBC confirms that Chelsea have agreed on a deal to allow Maurizio Sarri to leave the English outfit to join Serie A champions Juventus for the next season. It is understood that a compensation fee over £5m has been decided for the Italian manager. Despite finishing third and delivering the Europa League title along with a Carabao Cup runners up spot, Sarri has fallen prey to Roman Abramovich’s wrath.
The Chelsea fans are also equally culpable as they publicly showed dissent to Sarri’s tactics and team selections. The Italian manager never looked settled at the club. His low point would definitely be when Kepa Arrizabalaga overruled him in the Carabao cup final as the goalkeeper refused to come off the pitch which showed the manager up in front of the world. Nevertheless, Chelsea needs to move on from this and here are three managers they can consider.
Nuno Espirito Santo
The Wolves manager might be an inexperienced manager in the Premier League, but no other manager’s stock has risen as quickly as his in the last year. Wolves blew apart their competition in the Championship in the 2017-18 campaign and moved to the Premier League. Usually, new entrants to the Premier League are considered to be the favourite for the drop, but the West Midlands club went on to finish seventh, and they managed a spot in the Europa League.
His counter-attacking style of football and his influence with player’s agent Jorge Mendes has served Wolves well in the past few years. Chelsea should consider him even though Wolves would be keen to hold on to their messiah.
Frank Lampard
The former Chelsea captain looks like a favourite at this point to get the job after he guided Derby County to the playoff finals. He is hugely inexperienced, but the fans can get behind a manager like Lampard who gave it all for his club during his playing days. However, managing and playing are two different things, and it would be nothing more than a gamble from the Chelsea board to appoint Lampard. But who doesn’t love a fairytale and everyone associated with the club would hope that things will come good if the former England international is appointed.
Massimiliano Allegri
It could end up becoming a straight swap between Juventus and Chelsea if Allegri decides to venture into English football. The Italian manager built a dynasty with the Italian heavyweights and made them a force to reckon with in Europe as he took them to two Champions League finals.
His experience and stature is something which Chelsea need in their tricky phase as they go through a transfer ban. However, recently, Allegri confirmed that he would be taking a year out. So the chances seem to be slim at the moment, but maybe Abramovich can convince him to reconsider.
Notable mention- Jose Mourinho
Surely Chelsea cannot go back to their toxic ex for the third time but maybe, who knows.
