In an interview on Wednesday during an event at the Italian parliament, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis shed some light on the future of Lorenzo Insigne and said (via Team Talk), “If we receive offers that can allow us to replace them then we can talk about it. If not, if we receive offers in the last 10 days of the transfer window then it’s not possible anymore.”
The Reds were linked with a move to secure the services of the Italian wide man in the recent past, but Jurgen Klopp denied those reports back in April when he said (via the Express), “We will not sign Lorenzo Insigne. He is a very good player but he has a long-term contract at Napoli. We will not even try it.”
Will Insigne Be A Good Fit At Liverpool?
Liverpool should welcome the fact that the Naples outfit are prepared to consider offers for their prized asset in this off-season. The 28-year-old may not fit the age bracket for players Klopp usually goes for in the transfer market, but there is no doubt that he has all the skillset required to succeed at a club like Liverpool.
A move to Anfield could help Insigne win some major silverware so he should opt for a change of scenery this summer. The former Pescara winger made 41 appearances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side last season, registering 14 goals while creating six assists in all competitions.
What Will The Italian Sensation Bring To Merseyside?
Insigne boasts blistering pace which enables him to run with the ball at high speed down the left flank. He is not afraid to take on his marker and beat them off the dribble to either create a goal-scoring chance for himself or set-up his teammates in space in the final third. The Italian is also an intelligent footballer as he can read the game well, which helps him make some smart decisions on the pitch.
Should The Reds Make A Move For Him This Summer?
The acquisition of a player of Insigne’s quality and experience will undoubtedly bolster Klopp’s attacking options significantly at the red half of Merseyside. He will not only add more depth to the Liverpool squad but could also play a crucial role in determining the destination of the Premier League title next season.
Thus, it makes sense for Klopp to swallow his old words and make an attempt to sign the 32 capped Italy international before the start of the new campaign.
