According to Marca, Everton are ready to invest in San Lorenzo youngster Adolfo Gaich this summer. The Argentine youth international has caught the eye with his impressive performances in the under-20 World Cup. And it is believed that the Toffees are willing to meet his £15 million release clause, with Genoa also interested in the player.
Gaich’s agent Pablo Cairo recently spoke about the player’s future, stating, “We spoke with clubs in Italy. The Everton issue isn’t clear yet. The truth is that Gaich is on the list of many clubs, but still nothing concrete.
“Looking to the future, one would like him to go through the European market. I think one has to look for that to find the fullness of the player.” – he added.
Gaich’s success in San Lorenzo and Argentine youth teams
After impressing in the youth leagues, Gaich initially became a part of the San Lorenzo first team last summer. And since then, he has become a first-team regular with the Primera Division outfit.
However, his overall game-time was drastically restricted due to a nose injury as well as international call-ups with the Argentina youth side. Gaich has only scored two goals in 11 matches in the Argentine top flight with San Lorenzo. But, he has been far more effective in the Argentine national under-20 side, plundering seven goals in 14 matches.
He has notably scored three goals and registered one assist in the ongoing FIFA under-20 World Cup, although Argentina were knocked out of the quarter-final after losing to Mali in the penalties.
What can Gaich add to the table?
Primarily a centre-forward, Gaich is a feisty attacker, whose 1.90m frame makes him an intimidating figure inside the box. He is quite a physically imposing striker and is very difficult to be shrugged off the ball. And the youngster is capable of making smart use of his physical prowess to create opportunities for himself.
Aside from that, the 20-year-old has excellent positioning sense and often looks to make runs in behind the defence. So much so that his style of play can be compared to Robert Lewandowski, although the youngster still needs to improve on his technical skill.
Should Everton make a move for Gaich?
It’s unlikely that Gaich will be able to make the jump to the fast-paced nature of the Premier League with so little experience in top-flight football. But, the youngster is brimming with potential and can be groomed into an ideal Premier League striker.
Hence, Everton should look to make a move for the Argentine youth international, even though he will not be a part of the senior side. Alternatively, they can secure his services this summer and send him out on loan to San Lorenzo for yet another season, which will only enhance Gaich’s experience in professional football.
