According to Birmingham Mail, Everton are looking forward to adding Tom Bayliss to their squad ahead of the next term. The player has been one of the best midfielders in League One in the last season, having dished out several stellar performances for his current club Coventry City.
As per the report, the 20-year-old central midfielder has been tracked by a number of clubs from the Championship as well as the Premier League. While Aston Villa and Leeds United are ready to splash the cash on the Englishman ahead of the next season, both the Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton are also reportedly prepared to vie for his signature this summer.
Everton’s Midfield Woes
Everton, under the tutelage of Marco Silva, showed signs of improvement towards the end of the last term. A number of new players in the form of Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina, Bernard, and Andre Gomes were brought in to revamp their defence and midfield last summer. All of those players played their part, helping the Toffees finish the season among the top eight clubs in the Premier League.
However, with negotiations still ongoing with Barcelona regarding bringing Andre Gomes to Goodison Park this summer, it seems that the Merseyside club are looking to keep their options open. The inclusion of a player like Bayliss is expected to strengthen the midfield further as he could be an excellent option for the future as well.
Why Bayliss?
In the last term, the 20-year-old midfield ace earned rave reviews for his displays throughout the season. His ability to play in more than one position in the midfield is an added advantage. Bayliss is also known for his ability to vie with the opposition players for the ball and make crucial tackles and interceptions in the middle of the pitch. He ended the season with three goals and three assists to his name, which are very impressive stats for a central midfielder.
Everton already has a top-class central midfielder in the form of Idrissa Gana Gueye, who might leave for Paris Saint-Germain this summer. In that situation, Bayliss could pair up with Morgan Schneiderlin or Andre Gomes, if Everton can land him in the summer transfer window, to provide stability to the central midfield in the absence of the influential Senegalese.
Good Fit For Silva?
Marco Silva has shown what he can do with the right players in the last term already. If the Toffees can bring in someone like Bayliss this summer, it could add a lot of strength to the squad for them. The possible signing of the 20-year-old versatile midfield ace would also ensure that the Toffees have a decent option at their disposal for a long time to come as well.
The only detriment that could come in the way of signing Bayliss is his inexperience of playing at the top level. However, with the kind of composure and evolution the player has shown in the last term for Coventry, it could be a risk worth taking for Silva and his side this summer.
