According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Derby County are set to offer a whopping £10m, four-year contract to their manager Frank Lampard to make him stay at Pride Park and not join Chelsea this summer. The same source has mentioned that the Blues legend is currently on his holiday and would be offered a new deal by the Rams as soon as he gets back to England.
Derby’s Lucrative Offer: Massive Blow For Chelsea?
This recent development would come as a hammer blow for the Pensioners, but they would still have the lure of Premier League football to take Lampard away from the East Midlands side. The fact that the English manager is also a Chelsea legend doesn’t help Derby’s cause as they look to keep at the club for the long-run.
Lampard’s Time In Football Management Thus Far
The 40-year-old boss came very close to sealing promotion to the English top-flight on his debut campaign as a manager. However, the Rams fell on the final hurdle as they lost to Aston Villa with a 2-1 scoreline in the Championship playoffs final.
Maurizio Sarri left his post as the Chelsea manager earlier this summer, and so the West London outfit are in dire need of finding a suitable replacement who can come in and steer the ship during the transfer ban handed by FIFA for the next two windows.
The Pros And Cons Of Appointing Lampard
Lampard knows the club from inside out and is expected to give the job his all if he does end up leaving Derby in this offseason. However, one can argue whether the English head coach has enough experience to merit a move to a club like Chelsea this early in his managerial career.
Why Chelsea Being Priced Out Could Be A Blessing In Disguise
The Pensioners would be taking a huge gamble if they appointed their former player as the new boss as Lampard does not have a proven track record of success in football management. Hence, missing out on the English manager might be a setback, but at the same time, it could also be seen as a blessing in disguise in Chelsea’s pursuit for their next manager.
The West London giants are better of looking for more capable candidates rather than go with their ‘heart’ and announce Lampard as their new boss.
