According to the latest reports from the Daily Mail, Celtic are set to receive a ‘solid bid’ from Arsenal for their star left-back Kieran Tierney. Arsenal have been strongly linked with him in the past few weeks, and it is said that their interest has heightened at this point with a potential bid coming in the next few days.
The report mentions that Celtic will only accept a multi-million bid for Tierney, similar to something they got for Moussa Dembele when he was sold to Lyon.
The Hoops are yet to secure any new signings as of yet, and they have had a rocky start to the transfer window as David Turnbull managed to escape their grasp even though a bid by Motherwell was accepted. With Olivier Ntcham saying that a move away from Celtic is a possibility and Odsonne Edouard also being linked with a move away, things are going to get tricky in the transfer market for Lennon.
Amidst all this, they cannot afford to lose an established player like Tierney. Emery feels that the Scotsman is ready to take the jump from the Premiership to the Premier League. The Scottish international has always insisted that he would be happy to emulate some of the greats by becoming a one-club man. However, a move to the Premier League would definitely be tempting.
What should Lennon do?
In any other transfer window, we would have suggested that Celtic cash in on Tierney in this window, with so much crazy money being thrown around. However, the club needs to add reinforcements in almost every position right now and to lose out on an established player like Tierney will be a significant blow. Tierney is still just 22, and he will have the opportunity to play in some of the top divisions in the future.
How much of an offer will be too good to refuse?
As we have mentioned, Lennon should stick to his gun in this window. However, with the crazy money being thrown around by Premier League clubs especially, Celtic might look to sell him if an offer comes in which is hard to refuse.
With clubs like Crystal Palace demanding £55m for Aaron Wan Bissaka who just had one good season in the English top flight, we think that Celtic can easily demand £40m odd for Tierney. With the Scottish international having his contract at the club until 2023, Celtic shouldn’t let their star player leave easy especially in this crucial transfer window.
