Despite the resurgence of Rangers, Celtic have maintained their supremacy in Scotland and continued their success story clinching a historic treble ‘treble’. Even the exit of Brendan Rodgers did not alter the outcome as Neil Lennon, his successor, guided the Hoops to meet their season goals with sheer passion.
Lennon, the former Celtic skipper, has now been rewarded the managerial role permanently following his instant influence at Parkhead. He had a successful stint before but must make sure of another one based on the business done in the summer window. There would be multiple exits this month and the Northern Irishman should bring in proper replacements to restore the parity.
According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are plotting a move for in-demand Bolton Wanderers teenager Luca Connell. The 18-year-old midfielder enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Greater Manchester and has drawn the attention of many including Premier League outfits Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton along with the newly promoted Norwich City and Sheffield United.
Connell, meanwhile, has been in Rangers’ radar too as claimed by Football Scotland a couple of weeks back. The Hoops have now joined the queue and there’s little hope the player would stay at Bolton following their demotion to the English third tier.
The Liverpool-born youngster progressed through the youth ranks of the Trotters before breaking into their senior side earlier this year. His impressive run led to a senior call-up for the Republic of Ireland – the nation he has represented already in the various youth ranks.
He has shown great intent in the middle of the park, mostly as a deep-lying playmaker who contributes defensively when required. He screens the backline with timely tackles, interceptions and holds the ability to take the ball out from the deep banking on his swift dribbling technique. He prefers long passes and loves to play it off the ground – something that is rated quite highly in British football.
A move to Premier League would be fascinating. But the player should seek a move somewhere with the certainty of game-time at a senior level. Celtic, known for promoting the youth, would be an ideal destination for the starlet to flourish furthermore and fight for the silverware. The lure of Champions League football puts the Hoops in the driver’s seat to convince Connell to have an experience of one of the most physical, aggressive and entertaining leagues across the globe.
