According to Sport, Arsenal have tabled an offer to sign Yannick Ferreira Carrasco. The Dalian Yifang attacker is keen to return to Europe after a dismal spell in the Chinese Super League, and it is believed that the Gunners are in pole position to secure his services this summer.
“From a family point of view, I would rather play in Europe and stay closer to my family. Also on the field, where I had to take my responsibility and the team had to bear. But my wish now is to return.” – Carrasco said about his struggles in China.
Carrasco’s career demise in China
Ferreira-Carrasco went from one of Europe’s hottest attacking prospects at Atletico Madrid to becoming a forgotten figure in Belgian football, thanks to a shocking transfer to Dalian Yifang last year. The winger joined the Chinese Super League outfit for €10 million.
But, he has since struggled to adapt to life in China, despite boasting an excellent scoring record. Indeed, the Belgian has scored seven goals in ten league appearances while mustering three assists – making him the most productive player in the team so far this season.
What can Carrasco bring to the table?
A winger by trade, Carrasco is someone who can provide a lot of flair in attack, thanks to his dynamism and tenacity in the final third. He is often on the lookout for any counter-attacking situations and is proficient when it comes to creating chances.
His biggest asset, however, is his incredible dribbling prowess. Carrasco has quick feet and clever footwork, thus enabling him to take on defenders as well as nestle his way through tight spaces. And this makes him a scourge for the opposition defenders. In addition, the 25-year-old also likes to get to the byline and provide dangerous crosses into the box. Hence, he could be an ideal fit in the Premier League.
Should Arsenal make a move for Carrasco?
Carrasco will be a stunning addition to Arsenal given their lack of natural wingers. The Belgian, therefore, could slot in perfectly in the wider-attacking positions. And with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette leading the attack, Arsenal will be able to provide some genuine threat on the counter.
Also, Carrasco’s tenacity, coupled with his pace, makes him better fitted to Emery’s gameplan when compared to someone like Mesut Ozil. And at the age of 25, he will be a smart long-term investment for the North London giants.
However, a lot will depend on how much Yifang demand for the services of this talented Belgian international, with Arsenal, reportedly operating with a slender budget this summer.
