Rangers will have a big task on their hand in Steven Gerrard’s second season as he looks to stop Celtic from achieving 9 Premiership titles in a row. Nobody really expected Gerrard to do the trick in his first season and the English manager is likely to be scrutinised heavily in his second season.
Rangers kept up with Celtic in the title race until the winter break. However, the Gers went through a slump in form after January, and they struggled to get results. On the other hand, Celtic continued their winning run even after the departure of Brendan Rodgers and in the end, they won the title with ease.
The Gers are obviously looking to improve from here on in, and they have already started recruiting for the next season. Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie have been signed. Greg Stewart seems close to moving. However, we expect some departures as well and here are five players who we think are likely to move away from the club.
Kyle Lafferty
Reports are already doing the round that Steven Gerrard has asked the big striker to look for another club in the summer. The former Hearts man hardly made any impact for Gerrard last season. The final nail in his coffin was when he played poorly in a friendly against Liverpool’s u-23 as the Gers went 4-0 down at the half time. It was reported that Lafferty and some other players were lambasted for their lack of commitment and desire.
Graham Dorrans
Another player who is being linked with a move away from the club. Dorrans struggled with injury and Gerrard cannot afford to let him continue his stay in the squad. An experienced midfielder who is capable of producing some brilliant moments in the attacking third but it is likely that Gerrard would ship him.
Eros Grezda
Another one of Gerrard’s signing, which failed big time. The Albanian international took some time to get fit as he was injured when the club signed him. Even when he was available, the winger was hardly called upon by the manager. We expect Grezda to be shown the door in the summer.
Ross McCrorie
A very surprising name on the list after his impressive season. He wasn’t able to get regular opportunities, but whenever the Scotsman started, he impressed. Reports state that Rangers are looking to send him on a loan deal. We feel that he should stay with the first team as he is capable of putting in some strong performances.
Jordan Rossiter
The former Liverpool player had a horror time with injury, and we feel that he should be sold in the summer. The midfielder will enter in the final year of his contract soon. He managed to get a decent amount of game time since January as he was shipped to League Two outfit Bury on loan. However, we don’t see him being good enough to make an impact for Rangers anymore, and the Gers should look to cash whatever they can get for the 22-year-old.
Out of the five names, we feel only McCrorie is worth keeping, and others should be moved away from Ibrox.
