Celtic were recently linked with a move for five times Netherlands international Adam Maher. The 25-year-old was available on a free transfer after his contract with AZ Alkmaar had expired. However, latest reports from the Daily Record, confirms that the midfielder has joined Eredivisie outfit Utrecht in a three-year deal.
Maher would have been a top signing for the Hoops as Celtic require a dynamic midfielder. Olivier Ntcham is being linked with a move away from the club, and Lennon probably needs to keep an eye out for his replacement. We have compiled a list of three players the club should target after missing out on Maher.
Joe Aribo
Celtic are already getting linked with the Charlton Atheltic man after he helped his side get to the Championship by winning the League One playoffs. The midfielder is available on a free transfer, and the Bhoys should go all out to sign him. However, one can expect fierce competition for his signature as Aribo is seen as a huge talent and many have compared his playing style to former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira.
The 22-year-old midfielder can do everything which is needed from a midfielder, and he will be a massive coup for the club if they manage to get their hands on him.
Lewis Baker
The young Chelsea midfielder had loan spells with Reading and Leeds United in the past year. The 22-year-old is a versatile midfielder who can take on different roles in midfield. However, he is at his best in a box to box role. Given the firepower which Chelsea have, it is unlikely that Baker will come anywhere near their first team.
Celtic can try to sign him permanently, but if that fails, then they can get him on a loan deal. The midfielder is known for his healthy work rate and link-up abilities, and we feel that he can be a big hit at Celtic Park.
Lewis Wing
Wing made 35 appearances for Middlesbrough last season and contributed with five goals and five assists. The Teessiders fell just short of qualifying for the playoff spots as they finished 7th on the table, but Wing was a crucial player for them in the middle of the park. The 24-year-old is physically strong, and he can fill in various roles in midfield. He can surprise with his pace and dribbling skills as well, and the Englishman can be a shrewd signing for the Bhoys.
