Goalkeeper might be a position which is not often talked about the most. Usually, everyone expects a side to have a decent goalkeeper, but when a goalkeeper makes a mistake, then everyone loses their mind and talks about having a better one. Ask any Leeds United fan as they would have torn their hairs out seeing some of the performance in goal in the last few seasons. From Felix Wiedwald to Bailey Peacock Farrell and to 3 times Champions League winner Kiko Casilla, all have fared miserably in goal for the Whites in recent history.
Liverpool is a perfect example of how a goalkeeper can change fortunes of the side completely as they went from a good team to a top side in the last year with Alisson Becker in goal. We really think that Leeds United should take this position seriously and try to bring in a replacement.
Kiko Casilla has already indicated that he might want to leave the club and Peacock Farrell has also given the same hint as he wants regular game time. Therefore the club should go out and sign a goalkeeper and here are three players they can consider.
Freddie Woodman
The Newcastle United custodian failed to get much game time at St. James’ Park but he’s highly regarded as one of the top young Engish goalkeepers.
Woodman won the golden glove at the u-20 World Cup which England won, and we feel that the now 22-year-old can move to the Championship for game time. Might be inexperienced but has a lot of potential.
John Ruddy
The one time England international has struggled to get chances in the first team at Wolves ever since Rui Patricio came in at the club. He played a crucial role for the West Midlands club in the Championship when they got promoted. Might not be an outstanding or a long term option as he is 32, but Ruddy is an experienced and reliable keeper who can help the Whites in their promotion push.
Tom Heaton
Nick Pope recently signed a new deal at Burnley not too long ago and he wouldn’t have done that if he wasn’t made aware that he would be the first choice goalkeeper in the upcoming season. That might mean that Tom Heaton could leave the club in the summer as he is close to entering the final year of his contract. Heaton has been an England international, and if not for injuries, he would have continued as the no. 1 for Burnley. Leeds United need an experienced and reliable goalkeeper, and the 33-year-old man could just be the right custodian for them.
