It was a disappointing performance from Derby County in the first leg of the Championship play-off match against Leeds United as they lost by 0-1 in their own backyard. Kemar Roofe’s goal decided the result in favour of the visitors as Frank Lampard’s side have a lot of catching up to do in the second leg.
After a goalless first half, which saw the Whites dominate possession; the Rams were dominated in the second half from the very beginning. Leeds United’s relentless pressing brought them the goal that they were looking for in the 55th minute of the match as Roofe found the back of the net from Jack Harrison’s incredible pass. The Rams looked subdued throughout the game and were unable to have a single shot on goal. Although the missed penalty call did not help, we expected more from Lampard’s team.
Here is how the Derby County players were rated from their defeat against Leeds United.
Kelle Roos: 6.5
Did a decent job other than conceding the goal. Could not have done anything to save that shot from Roofe though.
Jayden Bogle: 6
Sat back and defended well in the first half. Lacked the composure in the second half. Did not make many attempts to go up the pitch with the ball.
Fikayo Tomori: 6.5
Looked good while vying against the opposition attackers. Made a few crucial blocks as well.
Richard Keogh: 6
Did not look at his best throughout the match. Gave up the ball quite easily. Should have done better to keep Harrison from delivering the ball into the box that led to the goal.
Scott Malone: 5
Looked far from confident while going up the pitch. Misplaced his passes on several occasions.
Mason Mount: 6
Did a decent job vying for the ball in the first half. Got beaten very easily in the second half though.
Bradley Johnson: 6
Kept creating space for passes in the first half. Lacked accuracy in his passing throughout the match.
Harry Wilson: 7
Made some outstanding runs into the danger area but could not get the shot away. The Leeds defenders found it difficult to contain him on many occasions.
Duane Holmes: 6
Looked subdued in the first half and most of the second half as well. Was a little more lively in the last quarter.
Tom Lawrence: 6.5
Tried to get the ball into the box but did not get the space for taking aim on goal. Took a few knocks in the process.
David Nugent: 5.5
A disappointing performance from the veteran striker as he could not get a single shot on target. Was withdrawn in the second half.
Substitutes
Jack Marriott: 5
Nothing special from the Englishman after he came on for Nugent.
Mason Bennett: 4
Was ineffective throughout his stay on the pitch.
Tom Huddlestone: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
