It was a disastrous outing for Tottenham Hotspur against Bournemouth as Spurs ended the match with nine men and were punished in stoppage time by Nathan Ake who scored the only goal of the game. The north London club were unable to breach Bournemouth’s last line of defence in the form of replacement keeper Mark Travers. The young Irishman had an unforgettable Premier league debut match as he made a series of outstanding saves to end all hopes for Spurs.
After a promising start, disaster struck for the visitors right at the end of the first half as Son was sent off after he reacted violently to Jefferson Lerma’s challenge. Juan Foyth, who was brought on in the 46th minute of the match, followed his teammate within two minutes of the restart as he picked up a red card for his challenge on Simpson. The Cherries took full advantage of this and dealt a massive blow to Mauricio Pochettino’s hopes of making it into the top four at the end of this season.
Here is how the Tottenham Hotspur players were rated from their defeat against Bournemouth.
Hugo Lloris: 6.5
Had a rather quiet first half but had to be constantly vigilant throughout the second half. Was not to blame for the goal conceded.
Kieran Trippier: 6
Tried his best to get the ball out of the danger area and into the opposition half. His defending was not up to the mark though.
Toby Alderweireld: 7
Made some crucial interceptions and cleared the ball away on several occasions. Dealt well with the threat from Wilson.
Davinson Sánchez: 6
Looked a little stretched in the second half in the absence of Foyth. Could have done better to prevent Ake from scoring the goal.
Danny Rose: 6
Went up the pitch with the ball on a number of occasions. His backtracking was not good enough though.
Eric Dier: 5
Did well for his short stint on the pitch alongside Sissoko. Was sacrificed as Pochettino opted to bring on Foyth but the decision backfired.
Moussa Sissoko: 7
Vied well for the ball with the likes of Lerma and Simpson throughout the match. Took a few knocks as well but did not lose his composure.
Christian Eriksen: 6
Tried to get the ball into the box quite a few times with his accurate passing. Looked subdued in the second half though. Had an effort saved by the brilliant debutant Travers.
Dele Alli: 6
His shots were saved twice by Travers. Looked out of touch in the second half.
Son Heung-min: 4
His conduct against Lerma’s challenge was violent, to say the least as he tried to punch the player. Was rightly sent off. Had a good effort blocked by Travers before that.
Lucas Moura: 6
Tried to lob the ball into the goal over Travers audaciously in the opening minutes of the match but the ball did not go in. Did not look that confident for the rest of the match though, especially in the second half.
Substitutes
Victor Wanyama: 7
Fought well for the ball with his physicality in the middle of the pitch. His work rate was excellent.
Juan Foyth: 2
Went dangerously into the challenge with both his feet to earn himself a red card. Very immature decision making.
Ben Davies: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
