According to a recent report by Calcio Mercato, Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan are currently the joint-favourites to secure the services of Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali during the summer transfer window. The Daily Mirror has now claimed that Liverpool are monitoring the Italian youngster’s progress this season, but unfortunately for them, Tonali is eager to stay in the Serie A instead.
In a recent interview with Calcio Mercato (translated by the Mirror), the Brescia midfield ace said, “We do not know we know from day to day, what matters is making the best choice for me.
“We can’t say if I’m going to Milan or Juve, maybe I’ll stay in Brescia and I’ll do my career there.”
This recent development will come as a bitter pill to swallow for Liverpool as they are long-term admirers of his talents. The 19-year-old has experienced another impressive campaign for Brescia in the Serie B as he helped his team win the league title this season.
Tonali’s Eye-Catching Campaign In Italy
Tonali has featured in 34 league matches, scoring three goals while grabbing seven assists in all competitions. The Lodi born talent, who came through the youth system of Brescia, has represented Italy at various youth ranks and might be destined to play for his nation’s senior team someday.
The Italy Under-21 international’s current contract at the Stadio Mario Rigamonti runs out in the summer of 2021, so Brescia will be under no pressure to sell their prized asset, especially after securing promotion back to the Italian top-flight.
What Does Tonali Offer On The Pitch?
The Italian primarily operates in the holding midfielder role but can also play as a box to box midfielder if required. At 19, he still has a lot of time to develop his game which is why so many elite clubs are looking to land him this summer. Tonali has also added some goals and assists to his game this season which proves that he is improving with each campaign.
Should The Reds Step Up Their Chase For The Italian Starlet?
Hence, Jurgen Klopp should try everything he can to try and convince Tonali to move to Merseyside in this offseason. However, if the Bresica wonderkid’s heart is set on staying in Italy, then the Reds are better of concentrating on bringing in some of their other transfer targets as pursuing Tonali will be a waste of time.
