According to a recent report by Football.London, Tottenham Hotspur have sent scouts to catch the Italian youngster Nicolo Zaniolo in action for AS Roma last weekend. Corriere dello Sport had earlier claimed that Spurs were plotting a €50m move for the Italian wonderkid as they look to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new season.
Zaniolo’s Recent Emergence In The Serie A
The Roma prospect came through Fiorentina’s youth system before he decided to leave as a free agent to represent the Entella Under-19 side back in 2016. Inter Milan decided to give him a chance to succeed at the San Siro, but Zaniolo struggled to break into their first-team which saw him being shipped out to the Stadio Olimpico last summer.
The 19-year-old has risen to prominence in the Serie A after putting in some majestic displays for AS Roma during this campaign. Zaniolo has made 35 appearances for Claudio Ranieri’s side this term, finding the back of the net on six occasions while creating two assists in all competitions.
The Massa born talent has represented Italy in two international matches thus far which is quite an impressive feat for a teenager. He has a very promising future in European football and could play an integral role for his country in the coming years.
What Will The Italian Starlet Add To Pochettino’s Team?
Zaniolo has decent pace under his belt and can make some driving runs from midfield to either set-up chances for his teammates or orchestrate a goal-scoring opportunity for himself. The Italian wonderkid has also added a few goals and assists to his name this season which will give him a confidence boost in the upcoming campaign.
However, the AS Roma talent is yet to prove his worth outside Italian football, so the jury is still out on whether he will be able to cope with life in the Premier League which is known for its physicality and high intensity.
Should Spurs Make A Move For Zaniolo?
The Italian starlet is looking to improve his game with each season so he can potentially become a world-class player in his position someday. Mauricio Pochettino could be the perfect man to get the best out of him as the Argentine manager has an impressive track record of developing young players and helping them unlock their true potential as evidenced by the recent rise of Delle Alli, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez among many others.
Hence, Spurs should consider making a move for Zaniolo this summer as he will not only bolster their midfield options next season but will also provide some healthy competition for places within Pochettino’s squad.
