According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move to secure the signature of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek during the summer transfer window. The same source has mentioned that Spurs are planning for life without Christian Eriksen and have identified the Eredivisie talent as an ideal replacement for the Dane.
However, the Daily Mirror has also claimed that the North London outfit will face stiff competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in pursuit of the Dutch midfielder who is being priced around £45m.
Donny van de Beek’s Sensational Rise To The Top
Van de Beek scored the only goal of the game when Mauricio Pochettino’s men faced off against Ajax in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie last week. The 22-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most promising young players coming out of the Dutch top-flight following his stellar form for Ajax thus far. He has put in some mesmerising displays for the Dutch giants during this campaign.
The Eredivisie sensation has featured in 54 matches for Ajax this term, scoring 16 goals while creating 12 assists across all competitions. He has also represented his nation at various youth levels and is now playing an integral part for Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands senior team having made five appearances for them so far.
What Will The Dutch Midfield Ace Add To Pochettino’s Team?
Van de Beek is a complete midfielder as he can do a little bit of everything while operating in the number 10 position. The Dutch wonderkid has an eye for a killer pass in the final third. Furthermore, he can also find the back of the net consistently from midfield. The Ajax star’s incredible contributions have put his team in pole position to win the Eredivisie title.
Ajax are also in the driver’s seat to qualify for the Champions League final which will be a remarkable achievement if they can pull it off later this week. The potential acquisition of van de Beek will undoubtedly improve Pochettino’s attacking options at the new White Hart Lane. He has all the makings to be an ideal replacement for Eriksen if the Danish international decides to make a move away from the Premier League in this off-season.
Can Spurs Fend Off Competition In Pursuit Of Donny van de Beek?
However, it won’t be easy for Spurs to lure the Dutch midfielder from the Johan Cruijff ArenA as they will have to financially compete with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in the chase to land him this summer. If Pochettino can somehow cough up Ajax’s asking price, then it will be a move worth pursuing. Otherwise, the Argentine manager will be better of concentrating on some of his other transfer targets as it is not realistic for the North London outfit to go on a bidding war with two of the giants of European football.
