In a recent interview with the Chronicle following Newcastle United’s 3-2 defeat versus Liverpool on Saturday, Salomon Rondon, who is on loan from West Bromwich Albion, shed some light on his future and said, “When I arrived here, Newcastle was the first choice, but you never know what happens in football.
“At the moment, I have to go back to West Brom and wait on whether West Brom get promoted or no.
“But, I say thank you for everything.”
The Venezuelan forward went on to add, “It’s a difficult moment for me because I felt the support for all the team and for me, every game.
“So, I have to say thank you to the supporters, the staff, Rafa and the teammates.
“I don’t know what’ll happen in the future.”
Rondon’s Majestic Loan Spell With The Magpies
Rondon has enjoyed a brilliant loan spell at St. James’ Park as he helped the club steer clear of the dreaded drop zone over the past few weeks. The South American sensation has been Rafael Benitez’s most potent weapon going forward so it would be a bitter pill to swallow for the Spaniard if he fails to land him permanently when his loan deal expires at the end of this campaign.
The 29-year-old has featured in 31 matches for the Magpies this term, scoring ten goals while creating seven assists in all competitions. He is also vastly experienced at the international level having represented Venezuela in 72 matches while registering 22 goals for them across multiple tournaments.
What Does The Venezuelan Striker Add To Benitez’s Side?
Rondon has transformed himself into a potent centre-forward this season. He has thrived under the expert stewardship of Benitez at the Tyneside club. He has decent pace and can complete a few dribbles with the ball in the attacking third of the pitch. However, his main strength is his ability to find space and get shots in at goal. The West Brom forward packs a lot of power with his attempts as evidenced by his goal against Liverpool on Saturday.
Why Benitez Needs To Sign Rondon Permanently
The departure of a striker of Rondon’s goal-scoring prowess could be a hammer blow for the Magpies and their chances of having a successful season under Benitez next season. The Tyneside giants need to do everything they can to land their Venezuelan talisman in this off-season.
However for that to happen, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley needs to loosen his purse strings or else his club might run the risk of being relegated from the Premier League in the coming years.
