According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United are in the race to secure the services of on-loan Bayern Munich midfielder James Rodriguez during the summer transfer period. The same source has also revealed that the Red Devils will face stiff competition from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in pursuit of the Colombian international later this summer.
Rodriguez is currently playing for Bayern on a loan deal from Real Madrid which was finalised in the summer of 2017. However, the South American prospect doesn’t intend to stay in Germany even though Bayern have the option to sign him permanently for £37m in this offseason (via Sky Germany).
Why The Red Devils Need To Bring In A Creative Midfielder Like Rodriguez
Man United have often lacked a creative spark in their midfield in the recently concluded Premier League campaign as their talisman Paul Pogba has often struggled to find consistency with his performances this season. Thus, a player of Rodriguez’s quality could help them in the upcoming season if the Mancunian giants can find a way to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
What Does The Colombian International Offer On The Pitch?
Rodriguez has featured in 28 matches for the Bavarian outfit this term, registering seven goals while grabbing six assists in all competitions. The 27-year-old is also vastly experienced at the international level after representing Colombia in 70 international matches while scoring 21 goals for them across various tournaments.
The 27-year-old is blessed with a sensational left-foot and has decent pace in the opposition half which enables him to cause a lot of problems for the opposing defenders. He can also pick out a final pass from midfield and is still a potent goal-threat from long range. However, a poor run with injuries has hampered his playing career over the past few years. Thus, in his current state, the Bayern star would represent a massive gamble for any of his potential suitors.
Is Rodriguez The Right Option For The Red Devils?
The Colombian sensation has played like a shell of his former self this season so a potential switch to the Theatre of Dreams might suit him as it will give him an ideal platform to showcase his talents at the highest level once again. However, Solskjaer should avoid signing Rodriguez this summer as he might struggle to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football.
Furthermore, his poor record with injuries is also another major reason for concern, which is why Solskjaer would be better opting for someone else in the summer transfer market.
