According to a recent report by the German news outlet, Sport1, Liverpool are set to battle with Bayern Munich in pursuit of Werder Bremen striker Max Kruse during the summer transfer window. The same source has also revealed that the German striker is ready for a change of scenery and is open to sealing a move to Merseyside in this offseason.
Kruse’s Impressive Career In Germany
The Reinfeld born forward has enjoyed another productive campaign in the Bundesliga after putting in numerous match-winning displays under Florian Kohfeldt’s stewardship during this campaign. The 31-year-old is vastly experienced in German football but is set to leave Werder Bremen on a free transfer at the end of this campaign.
Kruse has featured in 36 matches for the Bundesliga outfit this term, scoring 12 goals while grabbing 14 assists in all competitions. He has also earned 14 international caps for Germany, registering four goals for his nation thus far.
The former SC Freiberg is versatile enough to play either as a centre-forward up top or in the number 10 position as an attacking midfielder. Thus, he could be a useful asset under Jurgen Klopp if the Reds are successful in recruiting Kruse this summer.
What Will The Bundesliga Sensation Bring To Merseyside?
Kruse doesn’t have the pace and power to make runs behind the opposition backline. However, he is still a very useful dribbler with the ball and can link up play well with his teammates in the final third. The German striker is also a lethal presence inside the opposition penalty box and can score goals consistently when playing with confidence on the pitch.
Is Kruse A Good Choice For The Reds?
The addition of Kruse on a free transfer makes a lot of sense for Liverpool in the short-term. At 31, the Bundesliga prospect still has a few years left in his tank to play a high level. Thus, he could be the perfect candidate to play as a back-up to Roberto Firmino at Anfield next season.
Kruse’s experience and goal-threat make him an ideal option for Klopp to consider recruiting ahead of the new campaign. Furthermore, he is available for free, so any potential move won’t be a risk for Liverpool as they will be getting a proven finisher without having to spend any money this summer.
