According to a recent report by Le Parisien (translated by the Daily Mirror), Paris Saint-Germain are plotting a move to secure the services of James Milner from Liverpool during the summer transfer window. The same source has also revealed that the English midfielder is set to enter the final year of his current contract at Anfield and is yet to pen a new deal with the club.
Milner’s Brilliant Spell At Merseyside
Since sealing a move to Merseyside from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, the Leeds born talent has gone on to make 176 appearances for Liverpool while scoring 22 goals and grabbing 36 assists in all competitions.
What makes him such a useful member of Jurgen Klopp’s squad is his versatility to play in a variety of positions across the pitch. Milner is vastly experienced at the highest level and has also secured 61 international caps and one goal for England in his career.
The 33-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic season at Anfield this term after putting in several match-winning displays for them during this campaign. He has featured in 44 matches for the Reds this term, registering seven goals while creating seven assists across multiple competitions.
What Does The English Veteran Offer On The Pitch?
Milner is primarily a box to box midfielder, but he has also been used as a left-back in recent seasons. The English midfielder has lost a yard of pace due to his age, but he is still quite a potent threat for the opposing defenders going forward.
The Liverpool veteran is always willing to works his socks off for his teammates and is a natural leader on the pitch. Furthermore, he is arguably the best penalty taker in the Premier League after he converted most of his spot kicks over the past decade.
Why The Merseyside Giants Cannot Let Him Go This Summer
The loss of a player as essential as Milner will be a massive blow for the Reds as they try to mount another serious title charge next season. The English talent’s versatility and leadership abilities make him an irreplaceable member of Klopp’s team.
At 33, he still has a few years left in him to play at a high level. Thus, Liverpool should not entertain any offers for the English midfielder in this offseason. Even if this means that Milner would leave on a free at the conclusion of next season, Klopp cannot afford to let go of his services.
