According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has told his friends that he might have to leave Anfield this summer and seal a return to Southampton so that he can get his career back on track in the Premier League. The same source has revealed that the English playmaker does not have a future under Jurgen Klopp and will welcome a chance to go back to the St. Mary’s Stadium ahead of the new campaign.
Lallana’s Frustrating Spell At Anfield
Injuries have ravaged Lallana’s time at Merseyside since he decided to part ways with the Saints in the summer of 2014. Spending extended periods on the treatment table has put him on the fringes of the Liverpool squad, so it is only logical for him to want a move away from Merseyside in search of greener pastures.
The English playmaker has only made a handful of appearances for the Reds thus far and could be in line to feature on the bench when Liverpool face off against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Champions League final at Madrid on June 1st.
Lallana has featured in 16 matches for Klopp’s team this term but is yet to get his name on the scoresheet. However, he did put in two impressive displays in March when he earned two first-team starts and helped his side get maximum points against Burnley and Fulham respectively.
What Does The English Midfielder Offer On The Pitch?
Lallana has shown some glimpses of his old self during this campaign, but it is also worth noting that injuries have ruined his chances of succeeding at the highest level. The English talent works hard for his side both on and off the ball and can also create opportunities for his teammates in the final third. Furthermore, he can use both his feet to score or assist goals in the opposition half, which makes him such a unique prospect.
Should The Reds Part Ways With Lallana?
A return to the South-coast of England could help him reignite his career in England. Liverpool can also benefit from getting the player off their wage bill which might allow room for new acquisitions during the summer transfer period.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side will also welcome a chance to reunite with their former star as he could help them secure a top half finish in the upcoming season. Danny Ings has already proven that switching Liverpool for Southampton on a loan deal was the correct decision for him and his playing career. Thus, Lallana should follow in the footsteps of his former teammate and leave Merseyside in favour of a move to the St. Mary’s this summer.
