In a recent interview with Diario de Noticias (via the Liverpool Echo), Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes revealed his desire to play in the Premier League. The midfielder said, “I always said that I was an ambitious player and from a very early age I have had a dream of playing in England, where you can live pure football without big controversy, without big cases.”
He also went on to add (via the Liverpool Echo), “I want to make a good pre-season, and if anything comes up, I’m available to do what is best for the club.”
Fernandes has been linked with a whole host of English clubs which include Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea recently (via the Metro) so his recent revelation could encourage all of his potential suitors to step up their chase for the Portuguese midfielder during this summer transfer period.
Bruno Fernandes’ Magnificent Season In The Primeira Liga
The 24-year-old has enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career as he put in numerous match-winning performances for Sporting CP during the recently concluded Primeira Liga season. His outstanding contributions on the pitch has helped the Portuguese giants secure a deserved 3rd placed finish in the league standings.
The Maia born talent has made 53 appearances for Marcel Keizer’s team this term, finding the back of the net 32 times while creating 18 assists in multiple competitions. Fernandes has also represented Portugal in 11 international matches and has registered one goal for his country thus far.
What Will The Portuguese Playmaker Add To Klopp’s Team?
The Liga NOS prospect is a decent dribbler with the ball which enables him to be a potent threat in the opposition half. Fernandes has the vision to pick out a defence-splitting pass in the final third which is why he managed a whopping 18 assists at Sporting this season.
However, what makes the Portuguese midfielder such a highly-sought after talent is his productivity in front of the opposition goal. His goal-scoring record at Sporting has been second to none, so as long as Fernandes can continue scoring goals from midfield, he should have no problem adapting to life in the Premier League.
Why The Reds Should Look To Bring Fernandes To Anfield
Fernandes will undoubtedly bring a lot of goals and assists to Anfield, but he needs to find a way to cope with the physical toll of English football if he wants to succeed in the long-run. The Portuguese sensation could also be an ideal long-term replacement for James Milner who is currently playing in the twilight years of his Anfield career.
The Portugal international will not only bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options at the Merseyside club but could also improve Liverpool’s squad depth ahead of the new season. Hence, it might be wise for Liverpool to snap him up before other clubs join in and start a bidding war in this offseason.
