According to a recent report by Calciomercato, Liverpool are plotting a move to secure the services of Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr during the summer transfer window. The same source has revealed that the Reds are interested in recruiting the Senegalese international which could see him link up with his international compatriot, Sadio Mane at Anfield.
The Recent Emergence Of Ismaila Sarr
Sarr has enjoyed a brilliant season with Rennes thus far after putting in a string of impressive displays for the Ligue 1 side during this campaign. The 21-year-old is one of the most promising young players in the French top-flight, so it could prove to be a massive coup for the Reds if they can manage to land Sarr in this off-season.
Since sealing a permanent move from FC Metz in the summer of 2017, the Senegalese wing wizard has gradually worked his way up and has finally established himself as a regular starter in the Rennes first-team under Julien Stéphan’s stewardship.
The Saint-Louis born speedster has featured in 46 matches for the French outfit this term, scoring ten goals while creating 12 assists in all competitions. He has also earned 21 international caps for his country and has three goals to his name so far.
What Does The Senegalese Speedster Offer On The Pitch?
Sarr is versatile enough to play in multiple positions across the frontline. He primarily operates as a left-sided winger but is equally capable of featuring on the right wing or play as a centre-forward up top. The Ligue 1 sensation boasts blistering pace and is an effective dribbler with the ball out on the wide areas. He has also added a lot of goals and assists to his game this season which indicates that he is always improving his game and developing as a winger.
The potential acquisition of Sarr will undoubtedly bolster Jurgen Klopp’s attacking options at Anfield. Sarr will provide more competition for Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri as they look to battle with each other for a starting berth in the Liverpool first XI.
Is Sarr The Right Choice For The Merseyside Giants?
His playing style is pretty similar to Mane’s so the Reds would be getting a player with massive potential if they can convince the Senegalese wide man to move to Merseyside ahead of the new campaign. However, the fact remains that he is still quite a raw talent and is yet to prove his worth outside French football. All in all, Liverpool should consider signing him this summer as he could be an excellent squad player at Klopp’s disposal in the coming years.
