According to the latest reports from Birmingham Mail, Leeds United are among various clubs looking to sign Jamal Lowe from Portsmouth. The Pompey winger is in demand as the likes of West Brom, Middlesbrough Wigan, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest are keeping tabs on him.
Portsmouth recently missed out on promotion as they lost the playoff semifinals to Sunderland. Lowe recently indicated that he might be willing to stay at Fratton Park for another season to push for promotion. The winger was quoted as saying, ”I felt I could’ve done more last season, and I felt the same this season. But that’s what the next season is for – to try to better the last one.
“We had a nice FA Cup run with some replays and won the Checkatrade. It is what it is. We’ve got a big squad, so I’m not going to blame it on that. It could be a factor because it’s only science that if you play 20 more games than some sides, they may have an advantage. But we’re not going to put it down to that. We just have to go again.”
It seems like he is mentally preparing for the next season at Portsmouth. However, things can very quickly change in the transfer market if an official bid is launched by one of the clubs monitoring his situation.
What are Lowe’s strengths?
The right winger had an impressive campaign in the League One as he contributed with 17 goals and nine assists in all competitions. Lowe always looks to drive the ball forward with intensity, and he is willing to take on defenders in one on one situations. Blessed with impressive pace and dribbling skills, he can be a tough man to handle in and around the box. The 24-year-old also keeps his composure in the attacking third, which is often the most important thing to do.
Should Leeds United sign him?
The Whites don’t have many options for the wide region and Pablo Hernandez played as the right winger for the most part. However, he is already 34, and there were occasions where he struggled to play in that role. Bielsa definitely needs to add a winger, and someone like Lowe fits the bill.
His direct playing style and work rate would come in handy for the club. Finding the right pass or finishing off moves have also been an issue for the Whites and the English winger is a composed figure in and around the goal. Therefore the Yorkshire outfit should look to beat its competitors to sign Lowe.
