According to the latest reports from the Sunday People as cited by Hartlepool Mail, Leeds United are among various clubs who are eyeing a deal for Coventry City’s star midfielder Tom Bayliss. The likes of Middlesbrough and Premier League outfit Newcastle United are also credited with an interest for the English player.
Coventry finished 8th in the League One this season. Therefore, they missed out on the playoff spots. Bayliss managed to make 41 appearances for his side in all competitions, and the 20-year-old emerged as a crucial player in the first team for his side.
Bayliss is being considered as the next Premier League quality player to come from Coventry City’s academy. Currently, James Maddison and Callum Wilson are well known Premier League stars who started their footballing journey with Coventry and Bayliss seems to be next on the list.
The midfielder has got impressive pace, and the Englishman is a livewire in the middle of the park. He is someone who always looks to make things happen, and his pace allows him to be used in wide areas as well. Bayliss has managed 3 goals and 3 assists for his side in all competitions this season. The midfielder is being valued at around £500,000 and Brighton, and Hove Albion are also said to be interested in him.
Why Leeds United need a midfielder?
Leeds United have done well to finish third with a razor-thin squad, but they will need to add reinforcements in the summer irrespective of whether they gain promotion or not. The club has just got Mateusz Klich and Adam Forshaw as the only outright central midfielders. Forshaw has also filled in as a defensive midfielder this season.
Klich has gone on to start every game for his side in the Championship so far, and the Whites were lucky that their key midfield option didn’t succumb to an injury like his other team-mates. The club should definitely look to add a central midfielder in the summer to ease the burden on the Polish international.
Is Bayliss a good option?
Bayliss recently penned a new four year deal with Coventry, and he is seen as a major talent. He will definitely take time to prove himself at the top level. Leeds United have a history of giving youngsters a chance and Bayliss can come good if he decides to move to Elland Road. For £500,000, the midfielder looks like a decent bet. However, with Premier League club like Newcastle United also being interested, it could come down to whether the Whites win promotion to lure the midfielder in the summer.
