According to a recent report by the Daily Express (via the Daily Star), Everton are confident about their chances of beating Arsenal in the race to secure the services of Leandro Trossard from KRC Genk this summer. The same source has revealed that the Toffees are eager to recruit the Belgian winger who is being valued around £25m.
Trossard’s Brilliant Season With KRC Genk
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic campaign in the Jupiler Pro League thus far after putting in a series of match-winning displays for KRC Genk during this season. Trossard is yet to experience football outside Belgium, so this move could prove to be a gamble for the Merseyside outfit.
The Waterschei born talent has featured in 44 matches for Philippe Clement’s side this term, scoring 22 goals while grabbing ten assists in all competitions. He has also represented his nation at various youth levels and is on the brink of securing an international cap for Roberto Martinez’s senior side.
If he can somehow manage to replicate a similar kind of form in the Premier League, then the Toffees could have a real superstar in their hands. However, it could be a considerable gamble to bring him to England as he is still unproven at the highest level.
What Does The Belgian Wing Wizard Offer On The Pitch?
Trossard boasts decent pace and is a productive dribbler with the ball out in the wide areas. He can be a decent outlet for his team down the left flank but what makes him such a highly sought after player is his versatility to play as a secondary striker or in the number 10 position if required. The Belgian prospect has also added goals and assists to his game this season which is why some of the Premier League heavyweights are trying to recruit him this summer.
Is Trossard The Right Fit For The Toffees?
The potential acquisition of Trossard will undoubtedly bolster Marco Silva’s attacking options at Goodison Park. He will provide some healthy competition for the likes of Bernard, Richarlison, Theo Walcott and Ademola Lookman as they look to fight it out with each other for a place in the Toffees’ starting XI.
At 24, Trossard is about to embark upon the peak years of his career which Everton could look to benefit from over the next few seasons. His versatility and productivity make him an excellent fit for Silva’s style of play at the blue half of Merseyside, so the Blues should do everything they can to land him in this off-season.
