In a recent interview with the Liverpool Echo, Everton managed Marco Silva shed some light on Andre Gomes’ future at the club and said, “We have to do some also, it is not finished.
“Andre’s future we keep open, and not just Andre but Zouma also.
“But you asked me about Andre. His future is open and it is up to us the best we can do to sign him.”
When asked about whether Everton have held talks with Barcelona (via Liverpool Echo), the Portuguese boss also went on to add, “I don’t know all the details but I think we already started to do something.”
Gomes’ Impressive Season In The Premier League
Silva’s recent words will come as a positive bit of news for the loyal Everton supporters as Gomes has been sensational for the Blues of Merseyside during his loan spell this season. He has commanded the Toffees’ midfield with authority and conviction which has made him a favourite amongst the Everton faithful.
The Portuguese international has made 28 appearances for the Merseyside outfit this term, scoring one goal while providing two assists in all competitions. Gomes has previously represented teams such as Dragon Force, FC Porto, Boavista, Benfica and Valencia before his big switch to the Nou Camp in the summer of 2016. He has a wealth of experience in European football, which is why he has been able to make a smooth transition to English football.
What Does The Portuguese Midfielder Add To Silva’s Team?
The 25-year-old has a wide passing range and hardly gives away the ball in midfield. He keeps a cool head when under pressure which helps him make decisive plays in the opposition half. There is no doubt that Silva’s team would greatly benefit from acquiring his services for the long-run. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game as Gomes needs to be more productive in the final third as has been evidenced by his poor goal-scoring record this term.
Why A Deal To Sign Gomes Permanently Should A No-Brainer For The Merseyside Club
Gomes has what it takes to succeed in the English top-flight and so Everton could be the ideal destination for him if they can convince Barca to part ways with their prized asset. He has enjoyed a consistent run of form at Goodison Park this term, which means that he has earned Silva’s faith and could be guaranteed regular first-team opportunities in the coming years.
All in all, it is a no-brainer for the Toffees to consider signing the Portuguese talent permanently in this offseason.
