Celtic are just one win away from wrapping up their third consecutive treble, and everyone would expect them to get the job done when they face Hearts of Midlothian in the Scottish Cup finals. The Hoops haven’t been at their best for most parts this season, but they have managed to get the job done more often than not. Rangers have improved in the past year since Steven Gerrard took over, but the Gers still need to make up more ground to run Celtic closer next season.
Therefore the upcoming summer transfer window is going to be crucial for both the teams and it could decide which side dominates the Scottish football landscape for the next few years. Celtic captain Scott Brown recently gave an update where he mentioned that we could expect some wholesale changes to the squad. He said (The Express), ”There will be a clear-out at the end of the season and a lot of people will be leaving and there will be a lot of new faces coming in as well.’’
Here are the positions where we think Celtic are going to add players in the summer.
Centre back
Dedryck Boyata’s fate was sealed for quite a few months, and he has joined Hertha Berlin. Filip Benkovic’s loan spell is also going to come to an end though Rodgers has indicated that he could send the centre back to Celtic again. Nevertheless, a defender would be high on Celtic’s wish list in the summer.
Right Back
The Hoops have been linked with plenty of right backs in the last year, but they haven’t been able to solve their dilemma. Jeremy Toljan’s signing on loan didn’t work, and we don’t expect the Bhoys to sign him again. Mikael Lustig is going to be out of contract within a few weeks, and the club would need to sign a right back.
Forward
Odosnne Edouard has turned out to be injury prone, and Oliver Burke’s loan spell is also coming to an end. Leigh Griffiths should be back available for the next season, but we expect the club to go after a forward. The signing of Vakoun Issouf Bayo hasn’t also worked as he had struggled to get even on the bench when he was fit.
Goalkeeper
Might not be an immediate necessity as Craig Gordon still has a year-long contract left, but the Hoops might be on the lookout for a new custodian. Dorius De Vries is leaving the club, and the Hoops might want to add one more goalkeeper who can be a long term competitor with Scott Bain.
