Aston Villa’s on-loan signing Anwar El Ghazi who is recently in the limelight for receiving a red card against Leeds United could continue to stay at Villa Park as his parent club Lille are likely to let him leave on a free transfer. The report has emerged from French media outlet L’Equipe as cited by Bristol Post.
The Dutch international has managed to make 33 appearances so far this season, and he is likely to play a crucial role in the playoffs as well now that his red card has been overturned. El Ghazi has contributed with five goals and six assists for the Villans this season. His versatility to play on either of the flanks has come in handy for the club, and on a free transfer, this could be a valuable addition for Villa for the next season.
What does El Ghazi bring to the table?
Villa fans have now been accustomed to seeing him in action as he has been more or less regular for them as the winger has started 27 games this season. Standing at 6ft 2inches, El Ghazi is not built like a typical winger. However, he still has that pace to trouble defenders, and his physical presence can make it much more difficult for the defenders to rob him of the ball.
As we have mentioned, his versatility to play on either of the flanks is a huge asset as he is good with both his feet. To go with all that, the Morrocon born winger showcases neat dribbling techniques, and he can take on defenders and go past them. At his best, one can even term him as one of the best dribblers in the Championship.
El Ghazi has started the last 12 games for his side in this crucial phase of the season, and that shows his importance in this Dean Smith’s team. The 23-year-old has played a massive role in this incredible run from Villa which saw them win ten games in a row before their draw against Leeds United.
Where the winger can improve?
One thing where he still might need improving is tracking back and in the Premier League (if the Villans win the playoffs), he might have to work hard as Villa won’t enjoy as much possession as they are getting in the Championship.
Verdict
All in all, Villa are going to get a crucial player who has already established himself and has settled in at the club; for a free transfer. One can even term it as a daylight robbery, and it is surprising to Lille unwilling to give El Ghazi a chance after his loan spell.
