Recently reports from the Sun had emerged that Crystal Palace would demand £80m for their star winger Wilfried Zaha. Arsenal are interested in him but they are expected to come up with an offer of only £40m, and they are going to fall way short of landing the Crystal Palace winger.
However, the latest reports (Daily Star) claim that Arsenal are willing to offer three players now to make weight in the deal. The three Gunners players are said to be Calum Chambers, Carl Jenkinson and Reiss Nelson. It would be interesting to see what Crystal Palace’s response would be if such an offer is made.
The Gunners have fallen short of their target of finishing in the top 4, but they can still make it to the Champions League in the next season if they manage to win the Europa League. However, there is no doubt that the London based outfit needs a lot of reinforcements to their squad if they want to challenge the likes of Liverpool or Manchester City next season.
Why Arsenal need someone like Zaha?
Arsenal doesn’t have an outright winger in their roster apart from Alex Iwobi who has looked average at best. Therefore it is understandable why the club wants to add options in the wide regions.
Many would consider Wilfried Zaha as the best player outside of the top six clubs, and the 26-year-old winger has been crucial for his side in the attacking third. His pace trickery and dribbling skills are often too much to handle, and in one on one situations, fullbacks have often failed to control him.
Zaha managed a tally of 10 goals and ten assists in 36 Premier League appearances, and there is no doubt that he would come up with better numbers if he gets to play with a top side. Arsenal are going to find it hard to lure Zaha in the summer if they fail to win the Europa League final and the nine times Ivory Coast international has indicated that he would like to play in the Champions League.
Why does Emery need to be careful?
It remains to be seen what would Arsenal offer in cash if they allow as much as three players for Zaha. The Gunners need to be careful as Reiss Nelson looks like a decent talent. Even someone like Calum Chambers can come good for the club given the shoddy display from the Arsenal defenders this season. Zaha is a top player to have, but Emery cannot allow his side to weaken in other areas. If the club wants to use the three players to sign Zaha, then the club should offer less than £40m in cash.
