According to a recent report by the Sun, Arsenal have joined the race to secure the services of Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez during the summer transfer window. The same source has also claimed that the Gunners will face intense competition from Inter Milan and Napoli in pursuit of the Magpies star, who is being valued at around £25m.
Perez’s Rise To The Top Of European Football
The 25-year-old grew up playing football in the youth ranks of Tenerife before establishing himself as a first-team regular back in 2012. Newcastle decided to give him a shot in the summer of 2014, and since then, he has scored many vital goals for them during his spell at St. James’ Park.
Perez has enjoyed his best season in the Premier League this term after putting in a string of match-winning displays for the Tyneside outfit during this campaign. The Spanish striker has featured in 40 matches for the Magpies this term, scoring 12 goals while creating four assists in all competitions.
However, one can argue whether he has shown enough productivity in front of the opposition goal to merit a move to an elite club like Arsenal.
What Will The Spaniard Bring To North London?
Perez has decent pace under his belt and can be an excellent dribbler with the ball in the opposition half. When playing with confidence on the pitch, the Spaniard has the potential to be a match-winner on any given day. But at the same time, he also tends to fade in and out of games which will be a cause for concern.
The last thing that Unai Emery would want at Arsenal will be an inconsistent and unreliable player spearheading his attack up top. The Gunners have currently got two of most feared strikers in European football in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Hence, it is difficult to justify the thinking behind such a move for Perez.
Should Arsenal Move In For Him?
On the other hand, the Spanish striker can be an ideal impact substitute at the Emirates Stadium due to his ability to win matches for his team. Thus, Emery should consider bringing Perez to North London as he is a player who can help them compete on all fronts next season.
