Chelsea are notoriously for their tendency to loan out their young players all across Europe. But, the Blues could recall a host of their loanees this summer, as a result of their transfer ban being upheld by FIFA. Although the Premier League giants have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to postpone their ban, it will still be an opportunity for the youngsters to make a mark in the Chelsea first-team next season.
In this article, we will take a look at three loanees, who could play a vital role for the Blues in the upcoming season.
Tammy Abraham
Chelsea have struggled to provide any genuine threat in attack under Maurizio Sarri this season. Their main strikers in Gonzalo Higuain and Olivier Giroud have both failed to find the back of the net consistently. And the club has often appeared overreliant on the services of Eden Hazard in terms of attacking productivity.
This could be an opportunity for the young Tammy Abraham to make an impact in the Chelsea first-team next season finally. The youngster has impressed in the Championship this term, scoring 25 goals for Aston Villa. He is also expected to play a crucial role when the Villans face Derby County in the promotion play-off on Monday.
Abraham can offer the much-needed pace in attack while his lethal finishing means he can be an exciting addition to the Chelsea attack next season. The 19-year-old will also bring in some youthful exuberance in this Chelsea attack, chockful of ageing stars.
Reece James
Cesar Azpilicueta is one of Premier League’s most reliable defenders. But, the Blues will be looking for reinforcements in the fullback department, considering how Davide Zappacosta and Marcos Alonso have struggled to impress this season.
Reece James, in that regard, is one of the leading candidates. The young right-back has enjoyed a solid season at Wigan. And as a result of his impressive performances, he has been a subject of transfer speculation linking him to a move to Everton. James’ versatility in defence could benefit Sarri next season. The 19-year-old also likes to venture forward whenever possible – making him a tailor-made fit for Chelsea’s attack-oriented gameplay under the Italian mastermind.
Mason Mount
Mason Mount is another player who has impressed on loan this season. The English midfielder has been critical to Derby County reaching the promotion playoff this term. He was involved in 17 goals for the Rams in all competitions, which is quite impressive even for an attacking midfielder.
Mount is yet to make an appearance for the Chelsea first-team despite being a part of the Blues since an early age. However, that could change as Sarri will be on the lookout for playmaker this summer, especially if Eden Hazard departs Stamford Bridge.
As a matter of fact, Chelsea have already made preparations to make Mount a part of their pre-season campaign, reportedly offering him a Japanese visa. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the 20-year-old manages to impress Sarri this summer.
