According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to step up their chase of Fulham winger Ryan Sessegnon but are only willing to pay a fee closer to £25m for the player. The same source has also revealed that the Cottagers are set to demand a price tag in the region of £40m for their prized asset which could be a huge stumbling block for Spurs.
The Rise Of Ryan Sessegnon?
Sessegnon rose to prominence last season when he helped the London outfit secure promotion back to the Premier League. However, he has struggled to make a similar kind of impact in the English top-flight this season and is currently not even a guaranteed starter in Scott Parker’s first-team.
Even then, there is no denying that Sessegnon has incredible potential and is destined for a promising career in European football. The London born wonderkid has featured in 33 matches for the Cottagers this term, scoring two goals while grabbing six assists in all competitions.
At the tender age of 18, the Fulham starlet has managed to establish himself as an integral member of the England Under-21 side and could be promoted to Gareth Southgate’s senior side soon if he can continue improving his game over the coming months.
What Will The English Winger Add To Pochettino’s Side?
Sessegnon boasts blistering pace and is an excellent dribbler with the ball at his feet. He can play in any position across the left flank, and his versatility has been a useful tool for Fulham in recent seasons. Furthermore, the English youngster has added goals and assists to his game which means that his numbers are only going to get better with age.
The acquisition of a player of Sessegnon’s potential will undoubtedly bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield options at the new White Hart Lane. Spurs can benefit from adding a natural winger to their squad in the summer, so Sessegnon fits the bill perfectly. However, he won’t be guaranteed a regular starting berth at the North London club so Tottenham might not be the best career move for the winger as he would struggle to secure more game time on the pitch.
Will Sessegnon Be The Right Choice For Spurs?
As for Spurs, Sessegnon will be an excellent option to play on the flanks who can come in and help them challenge on all fronts next season. Apart from Son Heung-Min, there are no left wingers in the Spurs squad. Also, the South Korean is frequently played in a central role as he is more of a goal threat from those positions. In such a scenario, Sessegnon will be an excellent fit.
