According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is considering the potential sale of Kieran Trippier to fund a move for Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka next summer. The same source has revealed that Spurs are trying to secure the services of the English defender during the summer transfer period which will be a massive blow for Palace.
The Remarkable Rise Of Wan-Bissaka
The Eagles youngster has enjoyed a fantastic campaign thus far after putting in some commanding displays at Selhurst Park during this season. Wan-Bissaka has featured in 33 matches and has three assists to his name in all competitions. More importantly, he has made an average of 3.8 tackles, 2.2 interceptions and 3.4 clearances per match for Palace this term (Stats taken from Whoscored).
The 21-year-old has incredible potential and could be nurtured into a world-class prospect in his position if he can continue improving his game in the coming years. Mauricio Pochettino could be an ideal manager to get the best out of him as evidenced by the remarkable rise of Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks and Davinson Sanchez in recent seasons.
Wan-Bissaka is currently an integral member of the England Under-21 side having made two appearances for them thus far. He is destined for a promising future in English football so it will be a massive loss for Palace if they end up losing him this summer.
What Does The English Defensive Ace Add To Hodgson’s Team?
Wan-Bissaka boasts terrific pace and is a competent defender in his own half. He can time his challenges to perfection and is also capable of making a few crucial interceptions for his team. However, he is still quite raw and needs time to take his game to the next level.
Why Palace Cannot Risk Letting Him Go
The departure of the London-born talent will deplete Roy Hodgson’s squad significantly at Selhurst Park. Hence, he cannot afford to let him leave without bringing in a suitable replacement. The Eagles are better of retaining his services for the long-run as he has the makings of a great defender.
The English wonderkid is only getting better with each game and his rich vein of form this season could be down to Hodgson’s solid style of play at the London club. Hence, the Selhurst-outfit should try to convince him to stay put beyond this summer or else go through another rebuilding phase in the summer.
