With their latest defeat, Fulham are now destined to go down to the Championship. The Cottagers have failed to provide any resistance this season as they have managed just 17 points throughout the season. A lot more was expected out of them as they spent over £100m in the summer of 2018.
With relegation, the club also goes on to lose some of their star players and one player who could be playing his last few games for the club is Ryan Sessegnon. Tottenham Hotspur have been long term admirer of the player, and now with relegation, Spurs will have a perfect opportunity to land him in the summer.
Latest reports from the Mirror also suggests the same as Fulham are resigned to losing their prized asset as the winger is too good a player to play in the Championship again.
The Cottagers had put up a £50m price tag on him last summer, but it is now believed that the youngster’s value will take a hit after a below-par season with the London based outfit. Moreover, Sessegnon is also set to enter in the final year of his contract so it is highly unlikely that Fulham would manage to get what they want for the 18-year-old.
Why Tottenham Should Go For Him?
Even as an 18-year-old, Sessegnon was one of the bright sparks for his team. The winger has managed two goals and six assists this season. The England u-21 international has shown that he can thrive at this level and we feel that it is only a matter of time before some Premier League club comes in for him.
Spurs haven’t signed a player in the last two transfer market, but we expect them to splash some cash in the upcoming summer. Sessegnon has the potential to reach the level of someone like Gareth Bale. Like Bale, Sessegnon also started as a full back but his ability and pace while going forward was such that he was an instant hit as a winger.
Where Will He Fit In?
Tottenham have just Son Heung Min who can be termed as an outright left winger. The South Korean though often plays centrally as a secondary striker, given the goal threat which he carries. Sessegnon will bring in more depth to the squad, and his ability to play as a full back should also come in handy. We often see Pochettino deploying the system of three at the back and the wide players in midfield act as wingbacks. 18-year old Sessegnon could be perfect for that kind of role down the left.
