Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans has shown impressive signs at Leicester City after joining the English outfit on loan in January from Monaco. Now, it seems like Brendan Rodgers has taken a liking to the player. Even though Rodgers’ predecessor Claude Puel signed the Belgian, the Northern Irish manager made it clear that he would love to sign him permanently in the summer.
The former Liverpool manager recently said (Leicestershire Live), ”He’s a wonderful boy, 21, so he’s only going to get better, that’s the exciting part about him. He’s playing games now and he’s come back from two internationals to this so of course (signing him permanently) would be absolutely fantastic. But I’m quite relaxed about it. Of course, I want to work with good players and he’s a good player, but he’s not our player.”
Tielemans has managed one goal and four assists in seven Premier League appearances. At no point, it looked like he was playing in the Premier League for the first time.
The midfielder seems to have that extra bit of time whenever he is on the ball, and he is not easily hurried when the opposition tries to press him. Moreover, he has the ability to find his team-mates and his accurate passing is one of his key assets.
The midfielder is already a 21-time Belgium international at such a young age and Leicester should look to sign him permanently in the summer. However, Monaco would be following his development closely and they too would realise this midfielder’s potential. Therefore at the moment, the Foxes might not be favourites to sign him in our opinion.
Rodgers has already made it clear that he is not going to lose sleep over this, and he is relaxed about the midfielder’s situation. But it is quite clear that he would take him in a heartbeat. The Foxes are loaded with too many defensive midfielders in their squad, and they need a ball playing midfielder like Tielemans at their disposal.
With Jamie Vardy always willing to play on the defender’s shoulders and looking to make runs, the Belgian international can pick him up from midfield. That is why he already has four assists to his name. Leicester will have to spend top money to sign the midfielder permanently as Tielemans has enormous potential. It remains to be seen what the player would want now that he has settled in seamlessly at the King Power Stadium.
