According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Real Madrid have stolen a march over Liverpool and are leading the chase to secure the services of Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt. The same source has mentioned that Jurgen Klopp is eager to seal a move for the Bundesliga forward, but the Galacticos are currently in the driver’s seat to recruit the Serbian striker during the summer transfer period.
In a recent interview with Goal, Eintracht Frankfurt’s sporting director Fredi Bobic had shed some light on Jovic’s future and said, “There’s a real possibility that Jovic signs for Real Madrid.
“I hope and want him to stay here at Eintracht, but I’m also realistic and know that if a big club like Real Madrid wants him, then we haven’t got a chance of keeping him.”
The Remarkable Rise Of Luka Jovic
This recent development will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Reds of Merseyside as they could have benefitted from acquiring a talented centre-forward like Jovic in the off-season. The Serbian goal-getter has enjoyed a prolific campaign and has put in numerous match-winning displays for Frankfurt during this campaign.
Jovic has featured in 42 matches for Adi Hütter’s side this term, scoring 25 goals while grabbing seven assists across all competitions.
He has also represented Serbia at every youth level from Under-16 onwards and is currently a key member of Mladen Krstajić’s senior side. The Bundesliga ace has secured four international caps for his nation and has one goal to his name thus far.
What Does The Serbian Striker Bring To The Pitch?
Jovic has decent pace under his belt and can make some well-timed runs behind the opposition defence. He has also transformed himself into a lethal finisher during this season. However, the Serbian international is still an unproven talent outside Germany so the jury is still out on whether he can make a smooth transition to either the La Liga or the Premier League.
What Should Be Klopp’s Play?
The acquisition of Jovic would have undoubtedly bolstered Klopp’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign as he would have added more goals and assists to the Liverpool frontline. However, with Madrid in pole position to land him, the Merseyside outfit would be better of concentrating on other alternatives so that they can bring in some healthy competition for Roberto Firmino this summer.
