In a post-game interview with BT Sports (via talkSPORT) after Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Tuesday night, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his star striker, Harry Kane could be out for the remainder of this campaign with a serious ankle injury. The English centre-forward hurt his ankle while challenging for a loose ball with Fabian Delph. He came off second best and left the ground on crutches which raised concerns on the severity of his injury.
Speaking to BT Sports (via talkSPORT), Pochettino shed some light on Kane’s condition and said, “We need to check tomorrow but it looks the same, a similar issue.
“Very sad, very disappointed, and it’s going to be tough for the rest of the season.
“We hope it’s not a big issue but there’s not much time to recover. He’s twisted his ankle and we will see how he reacts in the next few hours.”
A Bitter End To This Campaign For Tottenham’s Talismanic Forward
The Spurs manager’s recent words will be quite concerning for anyone associated with the North London club. Kane has been an integral member of Pochettino’s squad since the Argentine boss arrived at White Hart Lane in the summer of 2014.
The English forward has enjoyed another outstanding campaign for Spurs this term and is currently the club’s top-scorer. He has scored 24 goals and provided six assists in 39 appearances for Tottenham this season across all competitions.
Losing Kane: Massive Blow For Spurs?
There is no doubt that losing Kane to an ankle injury will be a massive blow for Pochettino and his chances of landing a top 4 spot at the end of this campaign. More importantly, it will also affect Tottenham’s Champions League ambitions as Kane will not play any part in the second leg of their quarterfinal tie versus Man City at the Etihad Stadium next week.
Time For Other Stars To Step Up At White Hart Lane?
The Tottenham boss needs to figure out a way to cope with Kane’s injury soon if he wants his side to experience a successful end to this campaign. The incredible form of Heung-min Son could help ease some of the goal-scoring workload up top. We can also expect Lucas Moura to feature more frequently as part of Pochettino’s first-team in the coming weeks. Both Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli will also have to contribute going forward if Spurs are to secure a Champions League berth for the upcoming campaign.
The next few games will be a big test for the North London giants and their European aspirations. However, losing Kane will be a bitter pill to swallow for Pochettino heading into the business end of this season.
