Wolverhampton Wanderers notched up a win against Watford in the Premier League in a hard-fought contest. This win is set to give them a massive boost in their pursuit to end the season with a place in European competitions next season. It was also some measure of revenge for the defeat the West Midlands club had to face against the Hornets in the FA Cup semi-final.
Raul Jimenez opened the scoring for his side with a cheeky header past Ben Foster from a brilliant cross by Jota right before the first half whistle. Andre Gray took advantage of a defensive mix-up between Ryan Bennett and Rui Patricio as the Englishman shot past the grounded goalie into the empty net to get his side back into the match. It was the man of the match Diogo Jota again who slipped the ball past an advancing Foster to score the winning goal for his side from a pinpoint cross from Ruben Neves into the box.
Here is how the Wolves players were rated from their win against Watford.
Rui Patricio: 6
Made no mistakes other than the huge one where he left the goal open that led to the Watford goal. Did well to block some very good shots.
Ryan Bennett: 6
Fought bravely against the guile of Deulofeu throughout the match. His misdirected backpass, however, was the reason the goal was scored by Gray.
Willy Boly: 7
Kept playing on the shoulders of Gray throughout the match. Blocked several shots and cleared the ball well.
Conor Coady: 7
Fought against the opposition forwards and kept making crucial interceptions to break the attacks. Took a few knocks throughout the match but did not give up.
Matt Doherty: 6
Continued to get in the channel down the right flank and made some very good runs. His backtracking was not up to the mark though.
Leander Dendoncker: 6.5
Kept vying for the ball against Capoue. Got the ball up the pitch with his accurate passing. Lacked the composure towards the end of the match.
Joao Moutinho: 6.5
His classy footwork created a number of openings for his side in the first half Looked a little fatigued in the second half though.
Ruben Neves: 7
Kept getting the ball into the danger area with a keen eye for a good pass. His cross over the head of Kabasele to find Jota for the winning goal is one to be cherished by the fans for quite some time.
Diogo Jota: 8
Undoubtedly the Man of the Match. Dished out a brilliant cross to find Jimenez for the opening goal even when he was off balance. Scored with a cheeky shot past the goalie at the end of a darting run. Kept tormenting the opposition with his shrewd runs into the box as well.
Raul Jimenez: 7
Kept his scoring record intact as he headed past the goalie to get his side in the lead. Tried his level best to get another one but his luck did not favour him.
