It was an utterly disappointing outing for Arsenal away from home as Leicester City completely outplayed them at the King Power Stadium. Jamie Vardy notched up a brace while Youri Tielemans scored one to highlight the dismantled situation of the Arsenal defence once again.
The Gunners faced a massive blow in the 36th minute of the match as Maitland-Niles was sent off after receiving his second yellow card for a rash challenge on James Maddison. Their resistance completely fell apart in the face of relentless attacking from the Foxes as Maddison’s inch-perfect cross from the right-hand side found Tielemans in the box, and he headed it past Leno.
The next two goals saw some schoolboy like defending from Mustafi, Koscielny and Sokratis as Vardy had enough time to head the rebound into the net after his first attempt hit the bar in the 86th minute. More embarrassment followed as Ricardo dribbled past Kolasinac to pass the ball into Vardy’s way to help him score his second goal of the match in the 95th minute.
Here is how the Arsenal players were rated from their disappointing defeat against Leicester City.
Bernd Leno: 5
His positioning was faulty in case of the last two goals. Was peppered with shots throughout the match. Made a brilliant save in the early minutes of the game.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles: 1
Should have been much more careful with his tackles as defending has never been his strong point. Never looked confident in his short stay on the pitch.
Shkodran Mustafi: 3
Another match, another dismal performance from the German. Was not seen making any attempt to challenge the opposition players for any of the goals. Felt like he was invisible when Schmeichel played the ball in Vardy’s path for the second goal.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos: 5
Looked completely helpless with someone like Mustafi by his side. Was visibly fatigued in the second half.
Sead Kolasinac: 5
Failed to impress with his efforts on the day. Allowed Ricardo to almost stroll past him to push the ball in Vardy’s way for the third goal.
Granit Xhaka: 5
Gave the ball away on several occasions. Lacked accuracy in passing as well.
Lucas Torreira: 6
Took a few knocks while vying for the ball. Finished the match with a cut over his eyebrow. Made some good challenges in the midfield.
Alex Iwobi: 4
Looked ineffective throughout the match. Could not pose any threat to the opposition whatsoever.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 5
Lacked the composure in his passing as well as his attitude. Could not initiate attacks from the midfield.
Alexandre Lacazette: 6
Looked to open up spaces with his dribbling. His shots, however, were inaccurate.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 6
Tried to get the ball in the box but failed to do so. Could not take aim on the Leicester goal.
Substitutes
Laurent Koscielny: 5
His positioning in case of the second goal was hilariously wrong. A comedy of errors from the Frenchman.
Matteo Guendouzi: 4
Nothing worth mentioning from the Frenchman as well.
Eddie Nketiah: NA
Played too little to warrant a rating.
