In a recent interview with Stadium Astro (via Liverpool Echo), former Tottenham Hotspur defender Gary Stevens shared his thoughts on which players Liverpool should consider signing in the summer transfer window and said, “I think Liverpool need to sign a player that will get into any side.
“I think Christian Eriksen would be brilliant for Liverpool. He creates things, he makes things happen, gets on the ball and scores goals. And if you look at his stats, he covers the yards.”
A lot of Liverpool fans might agree with Stevens, and his recent comments as Eriksen is widely regarded as one of the best creative midfielders in European football. The 27-year-old is currently playing at his peak but is struggling to find success at the North London club in terms of trophies.
Hence, a move to the red half of Merseyside could be a lucrative opportunity for him and his goals of fulfilling his future ambitions. Jurgen Klopp can also benefit from acquiring a proven midfield talent like Eriksen who could be the final missing piece in his Anfield jigsaw.
The ex-Ajax midfielder has featured in 39 matches for Spurs this term, scoring seven goals while grabbing 13 assists across all competitions. One could argue that he would be an upgrade over any of the Liverpool midfielders currently at Klopp’s disposal.
Liverpool are still in a strong position in the UEFA Champions League and had shown last season that they are capable of getting to the final of the competition. Furthermore, Klopp’s men are well in contention to win the Premier League, so all signs point towards a brighter future at the Merseyside club.
Eriksen is a great playmaker and can open up any defence with his through passes. The Danish international also works hard for his team and is a major threat from dead-ball situations. He will be an excellent fit at Liverpool and is precisely the type of talent Klopp needs to focus on recruiting next summer.
Even though it might cost the Reds a lot of money to convince Spurs to sell their prized asset, it would be well worth the effort and investment as Eriksen could finally be the man to fill the void left by Phillipe Coutinho’s departure to Barcelona at the start of last year.
