In a recent interview with Telefoot, LOSC Lille president Gerard Lopez has revealed that Nicolas Pepe, who has been linked with Arsenal recently, will leave the French club at the end of this campaign. Speaking to Telefoot (translated by the Daily Mirror), Lopez said, “Four or five players will be leaving this summer.
“All clubs are forced to balance their accounts except perhaps one. I would say yes, it is sure he [Pepe] will leave.
“He enters a price range that can no longer be paid. There is a career choice to make for him, I think he will have the choice.”
The Recent Emergence Of Nicolas Pepe
This recent revelation will be a welcome bit of news for the Gunners and will be a big boost for their chances of landing the winger in the summer. Pepe has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Lille thus far after putting in some glorious displays for the Ligue 1 outfit during this season. His incredible productivity in the final third has helped the French club climb to the second place of the Ligue 1 standings.
The Ivory Coast international has made 35 appearances for Lille this term, scoring 20 goals while providing 14 assists across all competitions. He has also earned 11 international caps for Ivory Coast while scoring four goals for his nation thus far.
What Will The Ligue 1 Sensation Add To Emery’s Side?
The former SCO Angers wide man has tremendous pace which helps him make some effective runs with the ball down the wide areas. He is also a prolific goal-scorer and an assist-maker in the Ligue 1 as evidenced by record so far this term. Pepe has massive potential and could be nurtured into one of the stars of the future.
Pepe’s acquisition will undoubtedly bolster Unai Emery’s attacking options at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners currently lack width down the wings with Alex Iwobi the only natural winger in their squad. Hence, the addition of Pepe will improve the quality of the Arsenal squad heading into the new campaign.
Pepe’s Availability: Perfect Invitation For The Gunners?
The Lille talent’s availability this summer could give Arsenal the perfect opportunity to bring him to the North London club in this off-season. Hence, Lopez’s recent words will be a massive boost for Emery ahead of the summer transfer window.
