Wolves hosted Brighton at the Molineux, and the away side escaped with a goalless draw as the home side failed to convert their chances in front of goal. The West Midlands club took 22 attempts on goal, but none of them were good enough to beat Matt Ryan on the day. Chris Hughton would be delighted with this point after suffering four back to back defeats. The luck was definitely on their side as Wolves were denied by the goal post twice.
Leander Dendoncker got one of the best chance to put his side into the lead, but Matt Ryan produced a remarkable save from point-blank range as Dendoncker failed to convert from three yards out. Brighton were extremely poor on the ball as they kept on giving away possession cheaply. The Seagulls failed to test Patricio even once as they didn’t manage to get a shot on target.
Here is how Nuno Santo’s men fared.
Rui Patricio 6
Didn’t have much to do in goal. Distributed the ball well.
Conor Coady 7
At his usual best. Led the defence well and Brighton hardly made him sweat on the day.
Ryan Bennett 7
Glenn Murray kept him busy aerially occasionally, but Bennett was often up to the mark with his defensive work.
Willy Boly 7
Put in a few crucial blocks. Had one chance at the other end but he headed wide from Moutinho’s cross.
Matt Doherty 6
Drove the ball forward with intensity but lacked the cutting edge down the right. Had one wild slash at goal in the first half from a tight angle.
Morgan Gibbs-White 5
Not his best game as he was sloppy on the ball. Failed to do the basics right in midfield and was rightfully subbed.
Ruben Neves 6
Not as effective as he can be. Kept the ball moving but nothing too incisive. Took one impressive attempt on goal but Ryan was up to the task.
Joao Moutinho 8
Provided some fantastic crosses from set pieces. Was at his usual self in possession; calm, composed and assured. Pinged a few impressive diagonals.
Jonny Castro 7
Provided a lot of attacking outlet down the left. Worked extremely hard and his crosses almost opened the Brighton’s defence on occasions.
Raul Jimenez 6
Linked up play well but wasn’t at his lethal best in front of goal. Work rate was up to the mark like always.
Diogo Jota 7.5
Was a live wire on the pitch and came close to scoring as he hit the bar in the first half and the post in the second. Denied by some last-ditch tackle by Brighton defenders who were willing to put their body on the line.
Substitute
Ruben Vinagre 6
Provided fresh legs on the pitch
Leander Dendoncker 5
Could have scored the winner but was brilliantly denied by Ryan in goal.
Adama Traore N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
