According to a recent report by L’Equipe (via the Daily Mirror), Olympique Lyonnais are ready to part ways with Nabil Fekir at the end of this campaign, a year after his failed move to Liverpool. The same source has also mentioned that a gentleman’s agreement could potentially see the French talent move to Anfield during the summer transfer period.
Does Liverpool Need Fekir?
The Reds of Merseyside have enjoyed a brilliant Premier League campaign so far after picking up 24 wins in 32 league matches this season. Jurgen Klopp’s men are still in contention to win the league title and are also in a strong position in the UEFA Champions League where they are set to face off against FC Porto in a two-legged quarterfinal tie later this month.
However, there are still some question marks regarding their creativity in midfield. Most of Klopp’s current midfield options which include players such as James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum have not been able to facilitate plays from midfield.
Hence, they need a player like Nabil Fekir who can come in and help them create more opportunities going forward.
There is no doubt that Liverpool are over-reliant on their front three for creating and scoring goals so if Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah do not fire for them in a given match, then it is quite likely that the Reds won’t be able to get a favourable result in that contest.
What Will The French Midfielder Bring To Anfield?
Fekir will not only add more creativity to the Liverpool midfield but will also be a potent goal-threat going forward. The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals while providing seven assists in 33 appearances for Lyon this term across all competitions. His numbers this season confirms that he is a proven talent and not just a one-season wonder.
Should Liverpool Go Back In With Another Offer For Fekir This Summer?
The Merseyside giants should consider making another move for Fekir in the summer as the French sensation is precisely the type of talent who will be a good fit for Klopp’s style of play at Anfield.
