According to a recent report by the Metro, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku, who has been linked with a switch to Arsenal, is eager to seal a move to Rennes during the summer transfer period. The same source has revealed that the French midfield ace is set to snub Unai Emery and stay in the Ligue 1 at the end of this campaign.
This recent development will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Gunners as they try to rebuild their squad in the summer. Emery needs to bring in more talents so that his side have enough cover to compete on all fronts next season.
Nkunku could have been a brilliant acquisition for them as he has incredible potential. But there is enough fish in the sea so the Gunners should not have any problems finding a few suitable alternatives. Here are three players Emery should consider recruiting during the summer transfer window.
Maxime Lopez
Similar to Nkunku, Lopez is young and plays in the Ligue 1. He has established himself as a regular starter in Marseille’s starting XI. The French Under-21 international has made 32 appearances for Marseille this term, scoring one goal while grabbing four assists in all competitions. He could be an excellent fit for the Gunners as he will flourish while playing Emery’s brand of football at the Emirates Stadium.
Franck Kessié
The 22-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers in Gennaro Gattuso’s first-team at AC Milan this season. The Ivory Coast international has featured in 34 matches for Milan this term, scoring four goals while providing two assists in all competitions. He works his socks off for his team and can make an impact at both ends of the pitch which makes him a decent alternative to Nkunku for Emery to consider in the summer.
Fabián Ruiz
The Spanish midfielder has been one of the stars of Carlo Ancelotti’s senior team at Napoli this season. He has put in a few match-winning displays for the Naples based outfit during this campaign. Ruiz has made 30 appearances for Napoli this term, scoring five goals while creating two assists across all competitions. The Spaniard has the makings of a world-class talent so Arsenal will do well to lure him to North London ahead of the new season.
