According to Calciomercato, Everton are ready to make a move for Ivory Coast striker Christian Kouamè. The 21-year-old forward currently plies his trade for the Serie A side Genoa and has attracted the attention of a number of Premier League clubs including the likes of West Ham United and Everton.
The Toffees have not been able to capitalise on a decent start to their campaign as they faltered midway through the season and lost a number of matches. However, they have done well to show some fighting spirit in their last few games and have won back to back matches against Chelsea and West Ham in their previous two outings.
With almost no more chance of making it into the top eight this season, it is time for Everton to start planning for the next season. One drawback which has led to their poor performances is the lack of a genuine number nine, and this is where Kouamè could come into the fray.
The Genoa ace has been in good form this season but was overshadowed by the brilliance of Krzysztof Piątek, who was in phenomenal form for the Serie A side. However, since his departure to AC Milan in the winter transfer window, the 21-year-old has led the line at Genoa and has done well so far.
The Ivorian has scored four goals so far this season to show for his efforts. He has also proved himself as a complete team player and has notched up seven assists so far. This could attract the attention of the Toffees as they need a significant attacking threat.
While Cenk Tosun has been outright disappointing for the most of the season, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a better version of himself in the second half of the season. However, we cannot yet call him the solution to Everton’s woes up front. The situation has been so dire that Marco Silva had to deploy Richarlison, who is an out-and-out winger, as the main man to lead the line on a number of occasions.
Though the Brazilian ace has done well to notch up eight goals this season so far, it is necessary for the Toffees to find a permanent solution to their problem and bring in a decent striker to Goodison Park next summer. Kouamè could be that inspiration up front for the Toffees in the next term if they can land him in the following summer transfer window.
The fact that the young Ivorian has no prior experience of playing in the Premier League might be a detriment for Everton in making a move for him. However, inspite that, it would be wise for Silva to make a move for the Genoa ace ahead of the next season, which would also be a make-or-break one for the Portuguese gaffer in terms of his career with the Merseyside club.
