According to a recent report by Calciomercato (translated by Sports Witness), Everton are interested in securing the services of Lucas Ocampos from Olympique Marseille during the summer transfer period. On Sunday, the player’ agent Pablo Sabbag told L’Equipe (via Sports Witness) that his client is eager to ‘test the English market’.
The Remarkable Rise Of Lucas Ocampos
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign thus far after putting in some incredible displays in the Ligue 1 during this campaign. Ocampos grew up playing for River Plate before finally making a big move to European football to play for AS Monaco. He went on to have loan spells with Genoa and AC Milan before finally establishing himself as a first-team regular at the Orange Vélodrome back in 2017.
The Ligue 1 sensation has featured in 35 matches for Marseille this term, scoring five goals while providing seven assists across all competitions. However, his form has not been enough to earn an international call-up for Argentina yet.
Ocampos has previously played in the Under-17 level, but he is yet to make a senior appearance for his nation which will disappoint him. At 24, the Ligue 1 prospect is about to embark upon the peak years of his career which the Toffees could look to benefit from in the next few campaigns.
What Will The Argentine Add To The Toffees’ Squad?
Ocampos is primarily a left-sided winger but is equally capable of filling in on the right or operate as a centre-forward up top. His versatility could be a useful asset for Marco Silva’s side going into the new campaign.
The Argentine talent boasts decent pace and is a good dribbler with the ball down the wide positions. He has also added goals and assists to his game this season. However, to prove his worth in the Premier League, the Ligue 1 wing wizard needs to be productive on a more consistent basis.
Should Everton Move In For Him?
The potential acquisition of Ocampos will not only increase competition for places within Silva’s squad but will also raise the overall squad depth at Goodison Park. Hence, the Blues of Merseyside should try their best to bring Ocampos to the north-west of England in this upcoming transfer window.
