According to the latest reports from the Express as cited by Liverpool Echo, Everton are looking to make a move for Chelsea’s striker Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian forward is currently on loan with Crystal Palace, and it is believed that the Blues have slapped a £40m price tag on the striker. German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested in him. The striker had spent the first half of the season on loan with La Liga outfit Valencia.
Everton have had a stop-start season under Marco Silva, but they have shown enough on the field to give hope to the Toffees faithful for the next season. Everton managed some significant coups in the last few transfer windows, and it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to spend £40m on Batshuayi in the summer.
Why Everton need a striker?
A lot was expected out of Turkish forward Cenk Tosun, but he has failed to come up with the goods. Marco Silva has often overlooked him, and he has even preferred a winger like Richarlison over him to lead the line. At present, Dominic Calvert Lewin is doing more than a decent job up top, and the Englishman has cemented his place in the starting eleven after some influential displays.
However, it is clear that the club would need more options if they want to break into the top 6 in the next season.
What will Batshuayi add to the table?
The Belgian international did not manage to establish himself at Chelsea, but he did well whenever presented with opportunities. The forward enjoyed an impressive loan spell with Dortmund last season where he managed nine goals in 14 appearances.
The 25-year-old is an impressive poacher, but he has a little bit of everything to his game. Batshuayi is a willing runner as he likes to make runs in between the defensive lines from the shoulders of the defenders. Along with that, he can hold up play well when required. The forward has a decent pace to burn and all in all; one can term him as a complete package. However, he has the problem of being far too inconsistent. Nevertheless, he could be a decent signing for the Merseyside club.
Chances of Everton signing him?
The price tag might be a bit of an issue, and interest from Dortmund can also be considered as a big hurdle for Everton. Dortmund can offer the striker a chance to play in the Champions League. Plus the Belgian settled in well at the German club. Therefore even the striker might prefer a move to Dortmund.
