Leeds United will take on Wigan Athletic on Friday at Elland Road. They will look to carry on with their run which should see them move that much closer to the Premier League after playing more than a decade of football in the lower divisions. The Whites are in the driving seat now as they have opened up a three-point lead over Sheffield United.
The Whites though still need to be more efficient when it comes to killing off games. Against the Owls, they won by a solitary goal, and things got a bit nervy in the end as Steve Bruce’s men created some chances. Incidentally Leeds United will be trying to do their first league double on Wigan Athletic.
Team News
Barry Douglas is out for the rest of the season. Liam Cooper suffered an injury just before the last game, and he can miss out once again in the heart of the defence. Apart from that, Bielsa should have all his major players available.
Leeds United Predicted Lineup vs Wigan Athletic
Formation (4-1-4-1)
Defence
Kiko Casilla has established himself as the no. 1 in goal ever since his move in January. He is set to start in his usual role in between the sticks. Gaetano Berardi is expected to start if Liam Cooper misses out once again. The Swiss defender did a decent job after starting a game in a long time last weekend. Pontus Jansson should partner him at the back.
Bielsa would be glad that Luke Ayling regained his form at a crucial time of the season and the experienced fullback is set to start from the right. Ezgjan Alioski should be in his newfound left-back role.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips is set to start in the deepest role in midfield. In a more central position, Polish international Mateusz Klich is expected to operate. Tyler Roberts has established himself as the no. 10 even though Kemar Roofe is available and knowing Bielsa, he is unlikely to tinker much with the team.
Out wide, Jack Harrison should get the nod to start on the left flank once again. His intelligent movement and work rate is a big plus for Bielsa. The Manchester City loanee should be on a high after scoring the winner in the last game. Pablo Hernandez should be in his usual right flank role.
Attack
Patrick Bamford has continued to lead the line ahead of Roofe, and the former Middlesbrough player should start as the man up top.
