According to the latest reports from El Gol Digital, Leeds United will offer Marcelo Bielsa a chance to make some significant surgeries to the squad once they secure a move to the Premier League. The reports further add that Bielsa has already set his sights on some players and Real Sociedad’s midfielder Ruben Pardo is on his list.
It is believed that the Spanish club will not stand in the way of a move if Leed United decide to approach the 26-year-old midfielder. Pardo has started just ten games in the La Liga this season, and the former Spanish u-21 international has failed to establish himself in the starting eleven.
Why does Leeds United need to add depth in the midfield department?
Leeds United’s squad was hit with a lot of injury issues but one player who has been available for the most of the season is Mateusz Klich. The Polish midfielder has played a considerable role for the Whites, but he has looked jaded on occasions. The only other plausible option Bielsa has in midfield is Adam Forshaw who also acts as a backup for the defensive midfield position.
The Whites will need to add more depth in midfield especially if they move to the Premier League next season. Moreover, once Klich has more competitions for places, his performance might improve further.
What will Pardo bring at Leeds United?
The 26-year-old has come up from Real Sociedad’s academy and has the experience of playing in over 170 games in the La Liga. Typically a central midfielder, the Spaniard can be deployed in a deeper role as well in the defensive midfield position.
Pardo’s biggest asset is his ability to pick out a pass. His vision and passing skills can make a difference in the final third, and the Whites need a player like that. The Whites have dominated possession this season, but there have been occasions when they have struggled to open up defences because of the lack of cutting edge in the final third (hint: just the gone by Wigan match). Pardo can somewhat solve that problem.
Good Bet?
The Spaniard might struggle to adapt to the challenges of English football, and the Premier League can be a big challenge for the midfielder. Leeds United might want to look at more established and proven players at that level if they secure a move to the Premier League. Nevertheless, Pardo can be a decent squad player if he settles in at the club. The midfielder has his contract with the Spanish outfit until 2020, so it remains to be seen how much Sociedad demands for him in the summer.
